Fresh Grad. How it feels like.

Afraid of  being rejected. That little ache is something that I don’t want to feel. How will I overcome it? Will it boost my self-esteem? What would they think about me? Will someone still believe in me after consecutive rejections?

Graduation Day was over. It’s time to face the real world to get up and look for jobs online. Why did I apply just now when the competition is tough with co-grads, not to mention those experienced ones in the job market?

How am I going to sell my skills? How will I ace the interview? What are the technical questions they might ask? Woaah. These are just some of the questions that I searched online to be prepped for my upcoming interviews.

It’s time to update my resume. As my old thinking goes, “The longer, the better”. I was using the same old resume until I bumped into one of my old friends who’s a Psychology graduate. He told me that for me to have better chances in being shortlisted, I must make my resume catchy. A 2-page about yourself is okay but a 1-page resume will look better. It must state all the necessary information related to the job you want to get, else it’ll be of no use.

HINT: IT industry

I submitted my application to E and I passed the HR interview where interview with the managers will come in next. However, I didn’t hear from the interviewer after it was cancelled.

Having heard a lot of positive reviews about M, I tried my luck there. I passed their online assessment exam, however, the positions were already full.

I tried A, however, they took so long to include me in their shortlisted candidates, until it aged, my results were gone, so I have to start from scratch again.

Then, I tried my soft side. I took a codility exam from O, but it seemed I lacked still the logic and understanding about programming. FAILED.

I felt so upset about myself. I started to doubt what I can do. What added more to my doubt was my M, so I had to look for a job and be hired ASAP.

Call center? Yes, you heard it right. Since I already had an experience working in a BPO industry, I gave in. The pay was kinda okay so I signed the contract.

Our work was easy but my body clock seemed to dislike my schedule. Also, there’s still a desire in my heart to pursue a career that is related to my program. After 3 months, I resigned. Wew!

I was unemployed for 2 months after resignation.

Now, I’m happily employed at M.

NSO Helpline

I badly needed a copy of my Birth Certificate, however, because of my past experience of processing it in its main office in Fairview (long queue, hot climate, boredom), I tried to check online for faster way of getting a copy.

Boom! I stumbled upon this website “https://nsohelpline.com” where it says you can get a copy of your Birth Certificate in 2-3 days for Metro Manila residents upon payment.

So, I filled out their Birth Certificate Application form online. Afterwards, you will be asked for payment options like over-the-counter payment or through Credit Card via DragonPay. I was a bit hesitant, however, I’m left with no choice but to give this a try unless I want to experience the long queue again.

Anyway, it’s time to pay. It was my first time to encounter DragonPay, so I searched for it on Google just to make sure it is legit. It has a security encryption for Credit card payments to be secured and upon checking reviews which are quite good, I gave in.

After a few minutes, I received an email that the transaction was successful and I was charged 350 pesos. Well, that was fast! Fair enough over the hassle you’ll experience when you do it the usual way.

Included in the email were the transaction code, reference number, and other details about the transaction. Now, I’m starting to change my view about transacting necessary documents.

I tried to check if the reference number or tracking number really works, and yes it did. It gave me details about the delivery. It said it was out for delivery after a day. After 2 days, I received a copy of my NSO Birth Certificate!

With this experience, my view about processing documents is starting to change.

So, I tried Thrift Shopping.

I want to share the things I try.

“I was with my sister when I tried thrift shopping. ”

Whenever weekend comes, my sister always brings home new stuff. These stuff are clothes which have unpleasant smell yet looks chic and classy. I asked her, “Where do you get those stuff from”? She said, “From a Thrift Shop” or otherwise known as Ukay-Ukay, Wagwagan, or UK (this term is often used as euphemism for Ukay-Ukay) in the Philippines.

I was curious so I asked her to take me to one of the thrift shops she often visits. Along a known place stands numerous Consignment Stores which are next to each other! As we enter the first shop, an unpleasant smell greet me. It smelt like a very old box was opened to get those stuff from it. What made me more dizzy were the tons of clothes hanging in a rack which were categorized per section (women’s top, dresses, men’s pants, etc.). Through this, you will save time in looking for the stuff you want to get.

I tried checking myself the clothes that they sell. There were some clothes of good quality but most of them have the trace of being used (stained, have holes, faded colors, missing buttons, etc.). There were clothes which caught my attention that’s why I already took it for the price of 70 pesos each. I told my sister that it was so affordable! All you have to do is have patience on checking the clothes per rack and soon you will find one!

*People often misled others that used clothes by strangers cannot be used anymore as these may contain skin diseases which you may get. I have the same idea as others with Thrift Shopping but I do not see any harm that it did to my sister. Perhaps, it was because she meticulously soaks it in hot water, sprinkles some detergent powder on it, and exposes it directly to sunlight.

*Effect: With my new knowledge about shopping, I stopped my obsession from getting new clothes from Forever21 and H&M. Soon, I will post the stuff I get from thrift shopping and inspirational OOTDs out of those. Thanks for dropping by! Have a wonderful day! God bless everyone! 🙂
